Hi all,

Can somebody explain what S1/POS and S3/STR standby modes are? my organisation is set up at S1/POS and when I printing standby everything shuts off except for my case fans and power supply fan.

If i set it to S3 will that turn off everything similar I desire it?

Also, what is APIC mode ? should i enable it?

Cheers

Yes you should enable ACPI.....As for your question virtually the ii diferent types of Suspend Modes....S1(Power On Suspend) Suspend Keeps the Power On to all the Case Fans and lights,CPU and Chipset fifty-fifty though the System is asleep no data will be lost(I say why bother with this setting)......S3(Append To RAM), Shuts off everything in the Arrangement Except the RAM modules, wich stays energized with the +five.0V-SB Power Rail from the PSU, and it must remain powered up because that is where Windows Stores the Hibernation DATA, and this in turn allows you to come up out of S3 Hibernation and take simply about everything that you had open (programs and settings) before you powered down to S3.....Ps the most that can be kept during Hibernation all depends on how much RAM you accept and what can fit into it ;)..If you lot try to Hibernate with to much, or to many programs opened you will get an Error Message saying (Not enough System Resourses to Complete the ACPI.......Sean REILLY875

I found that S3 append is NOT for the faint of heart.
Read THIS THREAD , especially the post past Mitch66 who had the same issues in Turbo and ultra-Turbo mode.
Hope it goes better for you.

thank you for your replies guys...

i tried the S3 in SLOW mode and information technology works fine, only i'm going to turn it off because I'd rather have ultra turbo. I'll expect until the issue is sorted out.

Howdy
Can anyone tell me why that now i've fix the bios to S3/STR standby mode, the system can just return to normal if I press the ability button. It then instantly wakes upwardly back to normal.
Why wont it return to normal when I motility mouse or printing keyboard? The options on both have the "allow the device to bring calculator out of stanby" boxes checked.

Like nosotros said in the Replies Above, It is Best to Leave this Option Alone in the BIOS, and Just use the Hide Function if you lot desire to save your Programs To RAM, Just Make certain that you Have "Hide" Enabled in the Power Tab in "Display Backdrop"> Screen Saver, And Brand sure that you lot Have Your Page-File (Vitual Retentiveness) Fix to Match the Amount of System RAM that you Take Installed...And so your Mouse and Keyboard "Wake-Up Part will work.....................Sean REILLY875

Thanks for the reply simply i'1000 slightly dislocated I understood the annotate "I say why bother with this setting" to be refering to S1 and therefore promoting employ of s3. Accept I misunderstood?

I'm really only trying s3 to reduce the noise when going to standby way (fans etc) and idea hibernation was more than of a shuts downward after so many minutes type matter. I dont use ultra or turbo and but want the pc to be repose when i plow it off for a short while (if that makes sense).

I have two gig of retention so there shouldn't be a problem there.

If you go to "Close Down" your PC (Windows) The Usual Way, Mouse to Start, then click to "Plow Off Computer", You lot should accept the Choices, "Stand-By", "Turn-Off, and "Restart", If while you lot accept these Options Upward, if you Press the "Shift" Key, the Stand-By Selection will change into "Hibernate", Click on that and come across if your PC Goes into Hide, and endeavour to Wake up with your Keyboard.... Try this..........Sean REILLY875

When you lot say yous have the pick boxes checked, are you lot talking about inside Windows or in the Bios.
There are settings to change how the figurer wakes upward inside the Bios in Power management menu.

I meant in windows, could you please point me in the right direction as to where in Bios delight?

Go to "Power Management Features" Page in the BIOS, Go to "Prepare Wake-Up Events", Become to Keyboard (and Choose Any Key, Hot cardinal, ect) then Go to Mouse, do the Same ;).................Sean REILLY875

Sean, I wish to make a small clarification here. Windows then-chosen "Hibernation" is S4 fashion, not S3. After enterring "Hibernation" or S4, you tin can completely shut off the entire organisation, unplug the power cord. Windows doesn't allow u.s. to choose the standby mode between S1, S3. This can only be set up in the BIOS. If yous set S1 in the BIOS, in Windows you printing Standby, it will enter S1 mode. Same for S3 as well.

Simply brand it a glance through:
S0 - fully on
S1 - power on suspend
S2 - suspend with no processor or level-2 cache clocks
S3 - suspend to RAM
S4 - suspend to disk (hibernate)
S5 - soft-off
G3 - mechanical off

Greenish color can be set in the BIOS only, not in Windows.
Blue color can exist triggered from Windows (2k/XP and ME; 98 doesn't support)

In BIOS there are choice of Wake-Up events you wish to use to wake-up your organisation from the S mode.

This would be a good addition for the FAQ

The FAQ is getting besides long and getting difficult to read... :undecided: ... let see what I can do...

Well My Bad then :undecided:, And Thank Y'all For the Heads upwardly Maesus ;).... The only thing that I was trying to Advise, is to Stay Away from Choosing the "Stand up-Past" Mode, that Pops Upwardly When you lot Initiate a Winows Close-Down, I say this Considering a Number of us Using College Performance Memory, along with a Slightly Overclocked FSB, Will Result in the PC Going into an Infinate On-Off Loop, Until you Reset the C-MOSS, I'm Sure those of who this has happened to can Attest that this is i of the Scariest things to Happen to you (Every bit far as the PC is Concerned) As you have NO Command (Fifty-fifty if you hit the Ability Button ..On-off-on-off-on-off-on-off-on-off :shocked_anim:, And this is all information technology does until you Clear the C-MOS :lol_anim:, And I am Sure that this is Non to Skilful For either the CPU or the PSU :nooo:...............Sean REILLY875

lol!!!!

Yeah, that experience was quite horrifying for me as well. :shocking:

Never once again will i endeavor to go into S3 standby mode unless MSI explicitly fixes that characteristic in a new bios.
